Alu sequences are abundant in the human genome numbering approximately 500,000 to 1,000,000 copies per genome. The abundance translates into increased sensitivity and the Alu repeats were probed in the AluQuant™ Human DNA Quantitation System. It was performed by denaturing the sample and incubating it with the AluQuant™ Enzyme and AluQ™ Probe solutions that were furnished with the kit. The method employed a series of reactions that ultimately resulted in the production of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), which correlated with the amount of DNA present. The amount of ATP was determined by using a luminometer.
